Ashtanga Vinyasa Teaching Fundamentals is a rare opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the history, philosophy and practical method of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Module One is designed to substantially and quantitatively deepen the trainee's existing yoga practice, cultivate teaching and observational skills and develop or deepen critical thinking skills. Students must have an existing yoga practice and be open to the transformational qualities of the Ashtanga system (physical, mental and emotional). Critical thinking skills are emphasized and the student is encouraged to deconstruct the practice from a variety of perspectives both western and non-western (physical and spiritual). By the end of the 8 sessions the student must be able to demonstrate a strong practical understanding of the Ashtanga primary series (short form) both in and out of the classroom.
Areas covered include: philosophy of consciousness, pranayama, alignment principles, standing and seated asana sequences, the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga, taking flight with the Bandhas, jump-thru and jump-back using your core, finishing sequence and much much more.
It is strongly recommended that applicants have a strong personal practice (1-2 years of personal practice with a minimum of 3-4 practices each week). Experience with the Ashtanga primary series is recommended but not required. Current TYC students are given priority during the application process. Previous teaching experience can be helpful but is not required. The training is conducted in the traditional method of connecting teacher to student and as such requires a high level of commitment.
The fee for Module One the TYC Teacher Training Program is $500.
