 Ashtanga Vinyasa Teaching Fundamentals

TYC teacher training is a rare opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the history, philosophy and practical method of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.

Students should have an existing yoga practice and be open to the transformational qualities of the Ashtanga system (physical, mental and emotional).
Critical thinking skills are emphasized and the student is encouraged to deconstruct the practice from a variety of perspectives both western and non- western (physical and spiritual).
Areas covered include: philosophy of consciousness, pranayama, alignment principles, standing and seated asana sequences, the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga, taking flight with the Bandhas, jump-thru and jump-back using your core, finishing sequence and much, much more.

This intensive begins with the principles and practice of Ashtanga/Vinyasa Yoga, a dynamic, energetic sequence of postures that creates internal body heat, thereby promoting physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing, as taught in a Short Form developed by Jonny Kest.
Course Topics attempted to be covered:
-Increasing our knowledge of Ashtanga/Vinyasa yoga
-Practicing asanas and meditation
-Learning to teach others asanas
-Learning how to create a flowing practice
-Learning how to teach a flowing practice
-Creating a theme
-Learning to adjust others in asanas
The above list mentions the topics we would like to cover, what exactly will happen is hard to know before hand.  Yoga is a 5000 year old discipline, which could never be fully covered in this short training intensive or any other training for that matter.  Our intention is to simply teach what we know, sharing things from our personal experience and understanding.    Also, there may be things you really want to learn that we are not fit to teach due to those things not being a part of our practice.
Will I receive a teaching certification?
Students who successfully complete the 8- week training by satisfactorily fulfilling all the necessary requirements will receive a certificate of completion. Please be clear that enrollment in the program does not automatically guarantee you a certificate. What we do guarantee is a unique experience that will broaden and deepen your understanding of yoga. In addition, whether you go on to become a yoga teacher after participating in this training is uniquely up to each individual.
Note: If you are wondering if training from this program gives you credit towards Yoga Alliance’s certification program, please know that we are looking into it and will do our best to align our course in accordance with their standards.
